Neighborhood Profile: Garneau

“Garneau is a much loved vibrant and eclectic neighbourhood to call home! With a a variety of apartment style high rise and low rise condos, townhouses and older single family homes plus newer infill developments there is something for everyone and every budget in Garneau.

The area is steeped in history and is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Edmonton. Tree lined streets are filled with mature trees and provide a lovely canopy during the warmer months as well as a great spot to enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee on a quaint patio. Garneau is arguably one of the most walkable communities in Edmonton, with an abundance of services right at your doorstep. Residents enjoy easy access to the many shops and eateries on Whyte Avenue, miles of river valley trails, Kinsmen Recreation Centre with world class training pool, exercise facility, courts and outdoor in the summer the Queen Elizabeth Pool. A fun way to access downtown from this community is by taking the iconic High Level Bridge Streetcar, which typically runs from May through October.

Edmonton is known as the Festival City and living in Garneau allows you to be right in the heart of it with proximity to the city’s beloved International Fringe Theatre Festival, held every year in August. Built in 1940, there’s also the historic Garneau Theatre (Metro Cinema) where patrons can catch a new blockbuster or attend one of the many film festivals held throughout the year. The University of Alberta campus is bordered on the west side of the community and offers a hub of academic activity as well as top medical and research facilities.
